The Lakina Valley. This was my first view after hopping off the cessna, piloted by the legendary Bill McKinney. Dropped us off with a smile and a head nod and just like that we were alone with the river for 10 days.

The Frigid Shooting Star was a welcome sight after miles trekking through bog and mud. I love how their petals twirl with motion as if they really did just shoot down from the sky. Photo: CT Johansson
